What drum & imaging units do

A drum unit bundles the OPC drum with its charge roller, cleaning blade and sometimes the developer. On unit-based machines this is the consumable the engine counts, and it is replaced whole.

How to identify the right part

List the exact machine: a unit-based machine will not accept a bare drum swap, and a bare-drum machine will not take a unit. Check whether the unit ships with developer.

Signs a replacement is due

Print defects that persist after a fresh cartridge, a drum or unit life warning, or a unit-not-initialised message after fitting.

Grades available

Parts in this category are offered in several grades, and the grade is stated on every product page. Genuine and OEM parts are made by the original manufacturer, identical to the part fitted at the factory. Compatible parts are third-party replacements built to OEM dimensions and function, which is where most of the cost saving sits. Remanufactured and OEM-pull parts are original assemblies that have been cleaned, reconditioned and tested. The part number and compatible machine list are shown for each item so the grade can be chosen against the job, not against the picture.

Finding the part number

The fastest way to identify a copier part is by its manufacturer part number rather than by description. Numbers printed on the old part, in the service manual parts list, or on the machine’s consumables label will match a product in this category directly — search the number, or open the machine’s model page and find it there. Where a manufacturer supersedes a number, the superseded value is listed with the product so an older number still finds the right part.
