What chips & resetters do

The chip — a fuse or small EEPROM on the cartridge or unit — is what the machine reads to log usage and to clear the replace counter. Fitting a cartridge without a working chip usually leaves the counter and the warning in place.

How to identify the right part

Match the chip to the cartridge model and to the machine’s firmware generation. On most models the chip is single-use, so order one per cartridge.

Signs a replacement is due

A replace-toner or replace-unit message that returns immediately, a chip error, or the machine refusing to print once the counter limit is reached.

Grades available

Parts in this category are offered in several grades, and the grade is stated on every product page. Genuine and OEM parts are made by the original manufacturer, identical to the part fitted at the factory. Compatible parts are third-party replacements built to OEM dimensions and function, which is where most of the cost saving sits. Remanufactured and OEM-pull parts are original assemblies that have been cleaned, reconditioned and tested. The part number and compatible machine list are shown for each item so the grade can be chosen against the job, not against the picture.

Finding the part number

The fastest way to identify a copier part is by its manufacturer part number rather than by description. Numbers printed on the old part, in the service manual parts list, or on the machine’s consumables label will match a product in this category directly — search the number, or open the machine’s model page and find it there. Where a manufacturer supersedes a number, the superseded value is listed with the product so an older number still finds the right part.
